Overview

Citi Field opened in 2009 in Flushing, Queens, replacing Shea Stadium. Its grand entrance, the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, draws design inspiration from Brooklyn’s old Ebbets Field, and the stadium overall combines exposed steel and brick facades with an open-air bowl. It sits right next to Flushing Meadows–Corona Park and about a mile from LaGuardia Airport, so planes descending beyond the outfield fence are a regular part of the view. Beyond Mets baseball, Citi Field hosts major summer concert tours, international soccer matches, and large events in the surrounding parking areas.

Seating and Layout

Citi Field uses a six-tier system, from field level up through the promenade, with floor sections added for concerts.

• Field floor/pit: Standing pits or reserved seats placed directly on the field grass for concerts. Closest to the stage.
• Field level (100s): Circles the lower bowl. Sections in the 111 to 124 range give a direct, low-elevation view of a stage set up in the outfield.
• Excelsior and Empire levels (200s and 300s): Mid-tier sections with elevated views that stay reasonably close to the stage.
• Promenade level (400s and 500s): The highest tiers, offering budget-friendly seats with wide views of the full production.
• Club sections: Areas like the Clover Home Plate Club, Delta SKY360 Club, and Hyundai Club offer padded seating, private restrooms, and climate-controlled lounges.

For concerts, the stage almost always goes up in deep center or right field, facing back toward home plate. Floor seating or a standing GA pit covers the outfield and infield grass, and the outfield sections directly behind or alongside the stage are pulled from sale due to obstructed views.

The official baseball capacity is 41,922, a figure that’s held since 2012 (it was 41,800 when the stadium opened in 2009). For concerts, capacity depends on how much of the field is used for standing room versus how many seats are closed off behind the stage, and can run past 45,000 for shows with extensive floor space. The stadium’s recorded attendance high is 45,186, set during the 2013 All-Star Game.

Sound and Production

Touring productions bring their own line-array speaker systems and LED screen rigs, among the largest scale typically seen in the region. Wind and upper-deck elevation can affect higher frequencies, but the lower bowl and field sections generally get clear, direct sound.

Accessibility

More than 800 wheelchair-accessible and companion seats are distributed across the Field, Excelsior, and Promenade levels. Accessible elevators serve all seating tiers, club spaces, and suite levels. Main entrances, including the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, have accessible ramps and automatic doors. Assistive listening devices are available at Guest Services inside the rotunda, and service animals are permitted.

Getting There

• Subway: The 7 train stops at Mets-Willets Point Station, just steps from the main entrance. Both local and express trains run heavily around events.
• LIRR: The Port Washington Branch also stops at Mets-Willets Point, with direct service from Grand Central Madison, Penn Station, and Long Island.
• Driving and parking: The stadium sits off the Grand Central Parkway, Long Island Expressway, and Whitestone Expressway. On-site lots surround the stadium, and advance parking permits are recommended for busy events.
• Rideshare: Drop-off and pickup zones operate along Seaver Way and the surrounding perimeter streets.

Public transit is generally the fastest way in, since highway traffic around Queens can get heavy on event nights.
